Welcome to my blog!

Don’t let circumstances decide when you want to do something about your life

Today I want to tell you all to not let circumstances decide when you want to do something about your life.

So, I had a huge “oh crap” moment after I published my last post. I felt inspired and truly wanted to share my joys and struggles with you all and then I woke up the next day with a knot in my stomach. Now I actually HAVE to do this stuff.

Sounds familiar?

If you are anything like me, you get excited about something and then life gets in the way. For me, it’s a little baby that should be sleeping through the night but isn’t.

I really wanted to use that as an excuse here but I know better: both my coach and my husband are reading this newsletter. Need I say more?

Accountability = follow through.

Last time I shared that I need to find myself again, redefine my wants and needs. As much as I didn’t want to admit it – everything was different the moment I had kids.

So, what do I want? How do I get past the sleep deprivation and fatigue as an excuse to make it happen?

It’s starts with making the time. It starts by sitting down and doing the work (and folks – the work is easy since I have a framework that is easy to use).

Why do people that come to me start making changes in their life after months of doing nothing?
They make the time and they have accountability.

When we have “skin in the game” – we make things happen. This is precisely why we will get more advantage of something that we pay for than getting something for free.

Do you have skin in the game?

Whatever you commit to – find something or someone to be accountable to.Use this blog, use a friends, use your own blog – whatever it is but just do it.

A beautiful client of mine recently told me that she told herself she would dosomething about her life if she got sick or got cancer.

I can almost “see” you all cringe.

Hearing that made me sad but I understand what she means. I have used similar excuse myself – letting circumstances decide when I want to do something about MY life.

Please don’t let that be you. Not this year. Not if you are reading this.

Here’s the thing: you are meant to live a happy life, whatever that means to you. If you want more out of life– do something about it.

And here’s the secret – you CAN!

I start by taking an inventory of my life by using a wheel of life. It splits my life into segments (designated by me and each time I do it, I use different aspects). I rate those aspects and I write what they look like in most ideal state.

Then, I write action items that help me make it happen. Example:

Want: I want to be intellectually stimulated and excited about learning.
Ideal: Reading, watching documentaries, listening to interviews, enrolling in a course…Actions: List of things that will get me there – more about that later.

As you can see, it doesn’t have to be anything fancy. If you want to download the form I use with my clients, click HERE.

So, I started with purpose/intellectual work portion since that gives me more energy than working out! I have worked on learning and feeding my brain:

  • I signed up for courses that will help me grow and learn more
  • I am reading more about online marketing
  • I got back to Course in Miracles – my spiritual go to book
  • I scheduled a few keynote speeches
  • I scheduled few informational interviews
  • I started to read more
  • I started to (finally) read the newsletters from other bloggers

Result: I feel completely energized. I am not where I want to be, but I feel so darn excited about what I am doing now since it feeds me. Learning is one of my top values so that makes sense.

Stay tuned for what values mean and why you should know what your top values are.

So, the recipe for success I used is this:

  • Answer this question: what do you want?
  • Start by committing to something. Anything. One thing to get you started. It may be that you say you will eat a piece of fruit every day or read for 5 minutes.
  • Create an accountability (friends, family, public, or you can use your blog like I amJ)
  • Break it down: write out different aspects of your WANT and tackle one thing at a time (I happen to focus on all life aspects and I started with using my brain)

Now, I hope you are starting to see how easy this is if we describe it as a step by step process. I know that many things can get in a way (more on that later), but it can be relatively simple.

Go for it!
