Just do it – Introducing Heather O’Hagan

by | Mar 2, 2015 | Blog Post | 0 comments

Today, I would like to introduce a very inspiring young woman, Heather O’Hagan. She teaches us how sometimes, the best thing you can do is just go for your dreams!

I got to meet Heather O’Hagan last year and from the moment I met her, it was obvious that she had a talent for making people feel better about themselves through humor. I also discovered that she was an amazing writer. Heather O’Hagan refused to call herself a writer despite the fact that she had multiple manuscripts finished and sitting in a corner somewhere.

I see this all too often: despite the fact that many around us seem to recognize our gifts and talents, we are the last ones to internalize it and believe in ourselves. You may be told that you are a writer, painter or a coach but none of it will ever matter until you start to believe it yourself. Beliefs are the cornerstone of our reality, so today I invite you all to check in with yourself and see what limited beliefs you hold that are holding you back from going after your dreams. Sometimes, the best thing you can do is just do it.

And that is exactly what Heather did. Instead of waiting for all of those manuscripts to be edited and completed, she decided to venture into the world by publishing something finished that could inspire others. Heather O’Hagan did it with humor, courage and grace. Her book is now published on Amazon and as you can see, folks love it! Here are some of the reviews:
  •          Book is fun, witty, and easy to read. I love short phrases that can be remembered so they can provide inspiration and motivation when needed. Now off to the gym!
  •       It’s a quick read and it is very funny. The reasons are relatable and you can just flip to any page to find a good reason to get your butt to the gym.

Her book, Top 50 Reasons to Workout, is published on Amazon and can be purchased HERE

I know that many of us wait for circumstances to be perfect before we act, but sometimes that is a silent excuse that prevents us from getting hurt. Sometimes, in order to get better, learn about yourself and start following your dreams, you have to just do it and trust that it is only the beginning. Here is Heather’s story. En-JOY!

By Heather O’Hagan
I realized losing 25 pounds wasn’t going to be an easy task. I knew that if I could be held accountable to gym trips that I would be successful. So, I began using Facebook to “check in” to the gym.
Knowing I would  irritate my friends with these check-in’s, I decided to include a ‘reason’ for going to the gym each day. Each reason started with “Because…” and ended with a (typically snarky) remark that I had conjured up to keep me motivated, and my friends less perturbed. This was working! I was losing weight, and enjoying the wonderful support of friends – they had begun to check in with me to make sure I wasn’t neglecting my ‘reasons’ …and they wanted their daily chuckle.
Where was my inspiration coming from to derive more than 100 reasons to go to the gym?
One night I was enjoying some Pringles when I realized that the canister was NOT a single serving.  Seemed like reason enough to go to the gym. This is reason #8.
So, if I’d already entertained my friends with my little Facebook check-in’s, why compile a book of the top 50?
Really, the reason is simple – I wanted to know that I could. I wanted to see the finished project. I wanted to use my creativity to benefit my weight-loss journey, and this book would be proof (if my smaller frame wasn’t sufficient).
This first compilation of ‘reasons’ was a way of providing myself permission to publish short stories I’ve been working on for years. Feeling this sense of completion with the first book has given me the encouragement to continue work on the short stories (which will be published in 2014).
I always thought that I would be a writer only if my material was read. I am a writer because I write.  And, oh, how I love it!
There it is folks, just go for it!
